This emblem was designed to reflect the joining of two people, their histories and their cultures. At the heart of the emblem is the pomegranate, representing the nation of Armenia - Stephanie’s ancestral home. The Scottish thistle, representing Matthew’s paternal lineage, is featured at the top of the emblem, while the artichoke plant, on the upper left side, and the olive branches at the very bottom are a nod to Matthew’s maternal side from the southern part of Italy. The grape vine with its fruits on the lower right portion of the emblem are a nod to both the Armenian and Italian cultures as Armenia is said to have been the birthplace of wine production and Italy currently has a rich wine tradition and is the producer of a selection of renowned wines.
